WARNING: This is a serious rip-off! I asked my Hotel for a Doctor since I suffered from diarrhea, within 35 minutes 2 guys should up, checked my blood pressure and quickly recommended to go with them to their hospital. Once there they gave me an infusion against de-hydration. After 1 hour I realized that they plan to keep me over night and also do various checks just to charge me for. When I asked to remove the infusion once done as I want to leave, they disappeared and played on time. I had to escalate about 4 times until they did let me go. One guy came with a weird story that the law would not allow them to let me go because of risk etc. I explained that I am a Swiss citizen and will inform the embassy about. The bill? 920 USD for infusion and blood tests (including COVID, no clue why). Please be careful and avoid this place. Too bad

If I had been able to give 0 stars, I would have done so! What a terrible hospital. Ripping off tourists. We spent the whole day in the hospital just because of stomach complaints. All kinds of unnecessary tests and a box full of medication and antibiotics infuse, just to make as much money as possible. Insanely high costs, especially considering this is Africa. DO NOT GO HERE, ever!

Very friendly staff! Quick and helpful - while that is true I must update my review after exchanging emails with ZIC insurance (the one they MAKE you take at the airport even if you already have a travel insurance and give you no explanation whatsoever even though you keep asking question or any policy for you to review). Anyway, we enquired at the reception of Medexpress regarding ZIC insurance, they kept insisting we should use our own travel insurance, not being capable of explaining why the hell did we need ZIC insurance then. Eventually they said whatever money our travel insurance doesn’t refund, ZIC insurance would, we would just need to contact them AFTER. Lies.. ZIC insurance needs to be contacted before treatment takes place according to their policy (the one I never saw or was given a choice to choose 💁🏻‍♀️) and lets be honest, the ladies at the reception know that perfectly, it’s not their first rodeo. So medexpress and ZIC insurance just enjoy taking advantage of tourist in need of treatment with ridiculously high prices. Definitely avoid if you can or be very firm and make them contact ZIC insurance before you even go in for treatment… another update as an answer to our lovely medexpress response. My husband paid close to $500 to get a few spikes taken out of his foot. So yeah, ridiculously high prices 💁🏻‍♀️ but thank you so much for your answer. Not sure what was the point of it.

Very professional and high standards hospital, it was the only hospital in the south east coast region that was able to cure my moms stomach problems, previously, we were having a hard time finding her a proper hospital to cure her, we were recommended med express, they took very good care of her and treated her, very nice staff and hygienic standards are very high and they work well with our international insurance

I had a very positive experience at this hospital in Zanzibar. The doctors, nurses, and all the staff were extremely kind, professional, and helpful. I was treated for food poisoning, received all the necessary care within one day, and stayed in the hospital for one night. My son and I accidentally stepped on sea urchins at the beach and came to Med Express for treatment. From the moment we arrived, we had a very positive experience — from the reception staff to the nurses and doctors we met during our visit.

A very special thank you to Dr. Hamid, who was incredibly professional, kind, and caring, especially with my 12-year-old son who had to go through a long and uncomfortable procedure due to the number of sea urchin spines in his foot. His patience, skill, and compassion made a stressful situation much easier for both of us.

Probably the last thing you would think of during your holidays is an accident. Especially, if you're far away from home when you are in the deepest heart of Africa. But believe me accidents happen and if so then MedExpress is the best place you may find. It is not only because the hospital has implemented the Quality Management System confirmed by ISO 9001 but also people who work there on each level of caring - warm and tender. Not to mention the doctors who are really proffessionalistst with years of experience gathered abroud, including the USA. What esle I may add? The building is completely modern one. Clean and safe. The medical equipment is at the highest world's level. After the treatment you will receive the complete medical report which includes descriptions, photos, X-rays needed for your further treatment when you are back home. And finally, the last but not least, you will not be hungry in the hospital. The list of meals you are offered to pick up from the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner is amazing, and the food is delicious (from burgers to prawns). So, good luck, not have an accident, yet if you have them, you already know where to look for medical assistance.

Now I know why.

Very good clinic. I called them at 7 in the morning, they sent ambulance to pick me up from the hotel. Clinic looks very good, staff was very professional. I can't recommend Med Express in Paje enough! We've visited multiple times, driving all the way from Fumba Town, and it's always worth the trip. The facilities are top-notch, and the care from their world-class doctors is exceptional.

Both my husband and son have received treatment here, and we were consistently impressed by the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff. When my son broke his foot, Med Express was the only place on the island that could properly cast it.

The customer service is outstanding, making our visits as comfortable as possible during stressful times. If you need medical care in the area, this is definitely the place to go!!

Had been admitted here after a bad fall. There is nothing other to say than THANK YOU to the whole MedExpress team for the outstanding treatment during the last week. A wonderful hospital in Paje, Zanzibar. I was in intensive care there from November 19 to 22. They saved my life!!!! A very well-educated medical team. They speak English. There is everything in the hospital, a CT scanner, X-ray and a laboratory. Nursing care is available 24 hours a day. Professional medical beds. Very good food with a choice from the menu. They handle the entire settlement with insurance companies. I am very grateful to the entire team of this hospital. They are wonderful. Mirek from Poland.

I arrived at Med Express looking like I had lost a wrestling match with gravity, nature, and possibly a goat. I was 87% sure my spirit had already checked out and was waiting for me in the lobby.

I’m not saying she healed me like Jesus—but if she ever starts gliding across hallways or multiplying Panadol, I won’t question a single thing.

The nurses? Absolute legends. One gave me water so cold I’m convinced it was harvested from a glacier blessed by dolphins. The receptionist smiled at me like she already knew I’d survive, even though I arrived acting like I was filming my final scene.

By the time I left, I felt brand new—like a phone after a factory reset, minus the part where you lose all your photos.

We stayed for two nights and three days, and the care we received was excellent. All the staff — doctors, nurses, and assistants — were very kind, professional, and attentive at all times. They explained every step with great patience and made us feel safe and supported during a difficult moment.

I was admitted to the hospital with very severe stomach pain and had no idea what was causing it — the pain was truly unbearable. The doctor saw me immediately, without any waiting. They took a blood test and performed an abdominal ultrasound. Within 25 minutes I was already in a room, connected to medication and pain relief, waiting for the test and ultrasound results.

The nurses were caring and quick to help — I felt surrounded by attention and support. I spent the night in the room, and it was comfortable; the meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner) were excellent.

The next day I felt better. The doctor visited me to provide medication and instructions for the next steps. The service standards are truly European — everything is new and modern, from the equipment to the medication.

Oh my god, this is the best hospital I've ever seen. It's very clean and cozy, everything is new, the ward is superb with smart TVs, beds that can be customized, a shower and toilet in the room, and other amenities. The meals are fantastic, three times a day, and there's even a mini fridge with drinks in the room. Everything is included. It's all about the ambiance. And most importantly, the staff is very friendly. They admitted me quickly, did all the tests and ultrasounds, prescribed treatment, and got me back on my feet in a day and a half. They measured my temperature, blood pressure, and pulse every three hours. A nurse or a doctor regularly checked in to see if I needed anything and how I was feeling. I was with my boyfriend as an escort, and I also had food, a bed, and full care. Everyone was super polite and caring—the doctors, the medical staff, and the girls at reception. Special thanks to Agata for her patience while we tried to contact the insurance company in Montenegro. She handled all the logistics, and it made our lives a lot easier.

Great hospital. I got severe allergic reaction, and when they arrive at my hotel. They literally adviced me to come to their hospital for the treatment and proper care. Doctors are amazing , nurses and staff are professional and really doing their best to properly attend your needs. The hospital itself is very clean too!

They even check up on you the next day and message if everything is okay.

I spent 14 days in hospital with MedExpress in Paje leading up to and following abdominal surgery.

I can say without a hint of exaggeration that the care I received was exceptional. From the moment I was admitted, I was met with a very high level of expertise, incredible kindness, competence and genuine human warmth. This turned what could have been a frightening and traumatic experience into something reassuring and, in its own odd way, empowering.

The nursing staff were superb — attentive, gentle, endlessly patient and always ready with both professional care and good humour. Every single person I encountered, from the nurses to the support staff, contributed to an atmosphere of calm, kindness and quiet efficiency.

A special mention must go to
Dr. Ayham, for his unfailing reassurance. He gave me the confidence I desperately needed at my time of need. I could not have asked for better medical care.

I will be forever grateful and actually glad that my health crisis happened here. If one must end up in hospital, I can’t imagine a better place to do so.

I was admitted to MedExpress for a little over a day, and honestly, it was one of the best hospital experiences I’ve ever had. The staff were incredibly kind, caring, and professional. They took the time to explain everything they did — what, why, when, and how — in a calm and reassuring way. I felt safe, listened to, and understood every single moment I was there.

They assigned me two primary nurses who alternated throughout my stay, which made everything feel very consistent and comforting. Everything ran smoothly, including the paperwork for my insurance, which can often be stressful but wasn’t at all in this case.

The service level was truly outstanding — not only did they take great care of me, but they also allowed my partner to stay with me, which meant a lot to both of us. We even got to order food from an external menu, and it was surprisingly delicious!

When I was discharged, the hospital arranged taxi transport to and from our hotel, which was such a thoughtful touch.

All in all, I can highly recommend MedExpress. The care, professionalism, and genuine compassion from the staff made my short stay feel safe and positive from beginning to end. I’m truly grateful for the excellent work they did!

Incredible service and staff at this hospital. Within 30mins of calling a doctor out to our hotel in the middle of the night we were at the hospital already being given multiple tests. The team got to the bottom of the problem by the morning and the next day with great treatment I was on the mend and able to enjoy the rest of my holiday.

Going into to hospital abroad is an unsettling experience but the staff couldn’t have been more reassuring and the hospital was clean and very comfortable. Even with my guest who stayed with me they went above and beyond to make both of us feel comfortable and supported.

I would also like to give a shout out to the reception team who have been so so helpful in dealing with our insurance company.

Thank you again to all the nurses, doctors and staff at this great hospital. A very stressful situation but we really couldnt have been in better hands.

I am absolutely impressed with the level of care we received. The service was revolutionary from the very beginning – they came to pick us up directly from our place and escorted us to a private room. My son had severe stomach problems, food poisoning, and dehydration. A very competent doctor and nurse arrived promptly, examined him thoroughly, and then took us to the hospital.

There, they ran all the necessary tests, provided very detailed examinations, and kept my son overnight for observation. The facility was extremely clean, the doctor was outstanding, and the entire team showed huge professionalism.

What really stood out was how smooth the insurance process was – everything was handled transparently and efficiently. Even after we returned home, they followed up to ask how my son was feeling.

This was my first experience with a hospital in Zanzibar, and I can honestly say it is truly world-class. Many places in Europe could learn from the way this hospital provides care.
